Food Technologist (Finance)
To create new and innovative products that will provide a competitive advantage for Simmons in the marketplace.
Essential Position Responsibilities - This is a Salary Exempt position.
Research all needs as specified or directed by the customer. Researches, plans, develops, tests any new ideas or direction to support customer needs. Provides internal direction to Sr. Management on customer expectations. Develops & implements time lines based on customer specific direction.
Design and submit proposed ideas for tentative costing. Compile data, ingredient information, packaging requirements, and plant standards to ensure costing is accurate.
Draft Product Specification. Create an accurate template that describes the specific needs for the customer.
Ensure Product Launch is accurate. Conducts and consults with plant personnel to ensure customers needs are met. Builds a strong bridge between plant personnel and the customer . Collaborate ideas and communicate clearly between customer expectations and production capabilities.
Maintain R&D inventory. Provide direction to the R&D Coordinator to ensure test inventory is exhausted or repacked into finished goods. Work with the Marketing Manager to allocate any unused test ingredients to be removed from inventory via dump and destroy process.
Participates as a member of the Team . Participates in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinates work to ensure best practices with all team members. Attends appropriate team meetings. As a member of the Team, fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc. Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforces actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.
Simmons Operating systems principles and objectives: Is familiar with Simmons' established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies); understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position's role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.
Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives: This position description is intended to guide the activities of the Food Technologist and is not intended to limit the thinking and creativity of the person to the work of this function nor is it intended that this describe all the work that may be required of the person in this position.
Physical Activities: Must work in cold, wet environments at times. Must be able to lift small packages at times. Must be able to work on a computer for an extensive amount of time to compile data.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): As needed in required environment.
Travel: Travels domestically to and from multiple facilities and customer locations, requiring multiple overnight stays annually. Travel could be excessive at times depending on customers.
Technical Experience: Preferred 2 years minimum in meat processing, meat product development, or related quality assurance experience.
Industry Experience: Preferred 3 years minimum in meat or poultry production, development or quality assurance experience.
Minimum Education : Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Meat Science or related degree.
Preferred Education : Related Master's Degree and CRC/CCS Certification Status Preferred.
