New England Biolabs, Inc.
Postdoctoral Fellowship – Molecular Genetics & Genomics Division (Biotech)
The Molecular Genetics & Genomics Division of New England Biolabs (NEB) invites applicants for the position of Postdoctoral Fellow, to join the lab of Prof Tim Blower. The project will involve identification and characterization of modification-dependent restriction enzymes and their inhibitors. The Postdoctoral Fellow will undertake a program of research to define how GmrSD enzymes and their derivatives (i) recognize diverse substrates; (ii) bind and cleave modified DNA as part of a multi-step reaction cycle, (iii) contribute to phage defense and (iv) become inhibited by phage-derived proteins. The Fellow will apply a range of techniques including biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, next-generation sequencing and structural biology. The research will be undertaken in a highly collaborative and academic environment where training is emphasized, and publication of results is expected.
Primary Responsibilities:
Plan and conduct experiments to characterize modification-dependent restriction enzymes.
Develop and implement enzyme assays to aid in vitro and in vivo characterization of modification-dependent restriction enzymes.
Effectively communicate results to a larger scientific audience through conference attendance and departmental seminars.
Write and publish articles in peer-reviewed journals.
Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. in biological sciences.
Publication of original scientific work in high-quality journals.
Strong work ethic, emphasizing both efficiency and quality of work.
Preferred Qualifications:
Track record of successful research in the fields of biochemistry and/or molecular biology.
Hands-on experience of enzyme characterization and nucleic acid biochemistry.
Prior experience with protein expression and purification.
Prior experience with analysis of protein structural models and/or structural biology, while not required, would be useful.
Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative, setting.
This position offers exciting opportunities for broad research training, collaboration with academic and industrial institutions, publishing in peer-reviewed journals and participation in national and international conferences.
