Technician I, Parks (Finance)

The City's Parks Technician I is a full-time, fully benefited position that helps with the operation and maintenance of city parks, public spaces, golf courses, facilities, trails, cemeteries, and ball fields. Functioning as a member of a crew, the Parks Technician I engages in an assortment of responsibilities in turf care, irrigation, plumbing, carpentry, basic electrical, outdoor projects, and concrete; interaction with coworkers and the public makes for a creative and enjoyable work setting.
Variation is built into this role. The Parks Technician I will travel and serve at several different City park sites. Work hours for this position are approximately 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM with a summertime shift adjustment to roughly 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM. While this is not a supervisor role, the Parks Technician I will direct and provide instruction for their work crew.
A Class A CDL must be obtained within one year of an offer; we will provide training and CDL preparation and exam fees soon after your start date.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Performs skills associated with accepted maintenance practices including but not limited to municipal parks, golf courses and cemeteries.Cleans and repairs grounds, restrooms, facilities, playgrounds, shelters, etc.Maintains landscape areas including paver/brick repairs, hard/soft surface trails, cleaning and litter control; maintains, repairs, and tests water features.Prepares and renovates playing fields and courts for recreational use.Performs snow removal duties.Safely operates and maintains medium to heavy-duty motor vehicles and specialized industry-related equipment.Installs, maintains, and repairs irrigation and pumping systems.Provides direction and supervision to hourly and contractual employees.Coordinates activities with volunteer groups and community partnerships.Responsible for adhering to, and being an example of, following proper safety rules and regulations.Manages a flexible work schedule including hours of the day, weekends, holidays, and participates in on call rotation, if applicable.Utilizes Integrated Pest Management approach and applies pesticide, herbicide and fertilizer as appropriate.Availability to assist with special events, rentals and special projects as required.Performs technical horticulture by designing, installing and maintaining flowers, containers, and planting beds containing trees, shrubs and perennials.
