Specialized Youth Instructor Assistant Director- School Age (SUMMER CAMP) (Finance)

Current hiring needs are for our state licensed Camp FunQuest summer camp for ages 5-11. Positions available are for an Assistant Director. Assistant Directors can begin work as soon as hired at 10-15 hours per week and up to 40 hours per week, beginning late May 2025.
Overview
The City of Fort Collins Recreation Department creates exceptional programs to serve an exceptional community. Our summer camp programs (Camp FunQuest and Funtime Adventures) are an opportunity for children to learn new skills, find new passions, stay active, and connect with their peers and others in the community. Assistant Directors, Lead Counselors and Counselor Aides in our licensed childcare programs are responsible for working alongside the Sr. Recreation Coordinators to oversee the on-site, daily operation of programs and the overall planning and implementation of activities for children ages 4-15 years old.

Assistant Directors must enjoy spending time with children, creating empowering activities, serving as positive role models to the younger generation, and be a strong leader. These positions report to a Sr. Recreation Coordinator.
Work Schedule
Assistant Directors will begin work early April 2025 with 10-15 hours scheduled per week through mid-May for training and summer activity planning with up to 40 hours scheduled per week beginning mid- May 2025.Camp begins on June 3 and ends on August 15.
All positions must attend MANDATORY pre-service staff training on May 20-24 and May 28-30. Most training hours will take place during the evening to accommodate PSD's end of semester scheudle. Full training days will be scheduled when applicable and the full training schedule will be provided during the interview process. Weekly work schedules will vary depending on program needs. Camp program operating hours are M-F, 7:30am-5:30pm. Occasional evening hours would be required for all staff meetings.

-Maintain a clean, welcoming, and organized camp environment
-Greet children and parents in a friendly manner
-Attend regular staff meetings as scheduled, and communicate often with team members and supervisors
-Creativity in making everything S.I.L.L.Y.!
-Required to drive 15 passenger vans to transport children
Assistant Director
-Assists with coordination of all aspects of assigned programs including but not limited to participant registrations and forms, weekly activities, field trips, enrichment classes/programs, and special events.
-Supports program staff with organization and implementation of daily activity schedules, managing participant rosters, and behavior management strategies and/or activity modifications to ensure an inclusive experience for all participants.
-Provides on-site supervision of all assigned program groups to ensure participant safety.
-Communicates effectively with staff and families regarding participant behavior expectations and individual or group guidance strategies.
-Oversees check-in and check-out procedures including but not limited to daily participant health screens utilizing electronic tablets and software programs.
-Adhere to and implement City of Fort Collins policies and procedures, including any state or federal regulations for licensed childcare and/or camp programs.
-Represent the City in a positive, professional, and healthy manner.
City Competencies
Minimum age is 21. Must have one of the following:
-A four (4) year college degree with a major such as recreation, outdoor education, education with a specialty in art, elementary or early childhood education, special education, or a subject in the field of human services; OR
-Two years of college training and six (6) months (910 hours) of satisfactory and verifiable full-time or equivalent part-time, paid or volunteer, experience, since attaining the age of eighteen (18), in the care and supervision of four (4) or more children; OR
-Three years (5460 hours) of satisfactory and verifiable full-time or equivalent part-time, paid or volunteer, experience AND one of the following:
-Complete six semester hours, or nine quarter hours in course work from a regionally accredited college or university; OR
-40 clock hours of training in course work applicable to school-age children and the department-approved courses in injury prevention, and playground safety for School-Aged Child Care Centers within the first nine months of employment.
Six (6) months previous experience working with children in recreation, summer camp or school activities is preferred, including but not limited to previous experience working with positive behavior guidance strategies and/or supports. Bilingual (English/Spanish) language skills are preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
-Must pass City background check
-Must receive clearance from state and federal fingerprinting, and child abuse reporting background check.
-CPR and First Aid Certification is required prior to working with children.
-Must complete 15 hours of required, provided pre-service trainings prior to working with children.
-Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and ability to satisfactorily complete provided training for driving 15-passenger vans is required.
Language Skills
Communicate effectively with children, families, co-workers, supervisors, and the general public. Must be able to effectively give developmentally appropriate, verbal guidance to children between the ages of 5-15 years.
Reasoning Ability
Must possess the ability to solve and implement practical solutions to problems, to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form, and to foresee and initiate proactive measures to ensure program quality, customer service and participant safety.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk; and hear. The employee is frequently required to crawl, kneel, jump, run, stoop, crouch, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must have the ability to lift from the ground up to 40 lbs. The employee must be capable of leading children in extended periods of exercise and movement and be able to actively participate in scheduled activities alongside children in both an indoor and outdoor environment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be exposed to various weather conditions including rain, snow, wind, hail, and heat. The noise level in the work environment can be at high extremes at times.
The employee must be able to work effectively in an environment of noisy, happy, and sometimes distraught children. The employee must possess high tolerance for the characteristic behavior of children in indoor and outdoor recreation settings and work effectively in high stress situations. The employee should be flexible with the demands and interests of children.
