Research Assistant I/II - Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences (Finance)
UTHealth Houston's Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the McGovern Medical School is hiring for a full-time Research Assistant I/II to join their team of professionals. The RAI/II will be responsible for conducting projects involving molecular genetics and genomics on mouse retinal neurons; working with the Principal Investigator (PI) to design project-related experiments; performing experiments; developing new assays or methodologies for the lab; maintaining good record-keeping; and writing reports for the PI. The ideal candidate will have experience with handling DNA, RNA, and protein extraction from mouse tissues; intra-vitreous injection of DNA and viral particles; real-time RT-PCR; western blot; immunohistochemistry; confocal microscope imaging; DNA cloning and plasmid purification and aseptic technique in cell culture.
This position is funded by grants that comprise 50% or more of the funding. Continued employment in this position is contingent upon the availability of funding for this position. Your employment may end upon the cancellation or discontinuation of the project, program, or funding.

Bachelor's degree or relevant experience in lieu of education.

Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds constantly and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
This position may include work involving potentially hazardous chemical, biological or radioactive agents.
