The Chief Estimator is responsible for the oversight of the estimating process for all projects bid and awarded. Establishes standardized procedures, methods, and processes for estimating and training estimating resources in the use of the same. They are accountable for the people, software and other resources used to perform the scope and cost estimating functions that contribute toward delivering successful projects. The Chief Estimator is considered an integral part of the preconstruction process and partners with the Vice President of Estimating and Director of Preconstruction to establish best practices and processes to provide exceptional customer service as well as meet internal MYCON goals and to manage budget risk and profitability. Establishes procedures, processes, and techniques used for producing cost data throughout the preconstruction process. The Chief Estimator works with the Preconstruction Management and Operations teams to oversee department standards for deliverables such as bid packages, deliverable formats, and budget tracking tools. Essential Functions: Prepare full estimates and analysis. Manage the bid process to ensure a minimum of 3 bids per trade are obtained. During the preconstruction process, must complete onsite survey and job site visit prior to turning in budgets and bids. Primary developer of estimating talent and is considered a trainer and mentor to the estimating staff. Assigns responsibilities for estimating team members on each project and sets expectations for turnaround time & quality. Experience conducting GC bids from RFP through bid award. Prepare construction cost estimates with quantity take-offs and unit pricing. Evaluate and level subcontractor bid proposals. Prepare scope documents per trade and include scope and project-specific information. Conduct site walk-throughs and site evaluations for existing conditions scope and qualifications. Collaborate with subcontractors for specific bids and projects. Assist subcontractors to confirm scope by reviewing plans and specifications. Conduct interviews with subcontractors as part of project leveling and scoping. Manage project documents and addendums during leveling and procurement. Prepare recommendation packages for review, approval, and submission. Actively in industry, client, and community relations to enhance company image. Manage the transfer of information on awarded projects including the Job Turn-over Meeting. Attends periodic reviews and tours projects as appropriate to collaborate with on-site construction staff. Performs other position appropriate duties as required in a competent, professional, and courteous manner. Advanced knowledge of labor and material costs, ability to read, interpret and make quantity takeoffs from drawings and specifications. Advanced knowledge of construction procedures. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Required skills needed but not limited to the following: Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from a four-year college or university in construction management, engineering, or related field. Masters Degree preferred. 10+ years of experience in pre-construction, estimating, or related field. Thorough experience with conceptual, design-build, and structure estimating. Thorough knowledge of the industry and different building systems with the ability to advise clients or procure appropriate consultant input on MEP Design and LEED Certification. Strong computer skills, including thorough knowledge of Word, Excel, Phoenix, Destini, On-Screen Takeoff, Quest Earthwork, and estimating software and technology. Highly developed communication skills (listening, influence management, consensus development) paired with outstanding presentation skills. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build successful and lasting relationships with team members, architects, owners, subcontractors, and municipalities. Strong analytical and logic skills with the ability to maintain a high degree of precision on detailed work. High energy and self-motivated with a sense of urgency to complete assigned tasks.
