Job Title: Mechanical Engineer
Type: Full -Time
Location: Troy, VA
Travel: 10-20%.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our Engineering Department. The successful candidate will support manufacturing and product development with mechanical and electrical systems. This role involves providing design concepts, ensuring manufacturability, and delivering specifications that enhance manufacturing processes and equipment, as well as developing new products within timelines and budgets. Collaboration with multiple teams across the organization is essential.
Responsibilities:
Conceptualize new products and define success metrics (cost, size, function, etc.).
Develop prototypes using 3D modeling software (Inventor or SolidWorks).
Identify, validate, and implement cost reductions in the manufacturing process.
Collaborate with teams to analyze data and propose solutions to improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
Perform Process Capability Analysis to ensure repeatable manufacturing within specification limits.
Ensure Good Documentation Practice (GDP) for each iteration or revision change.
Consider manufacturing limitations in design and ensure reliable component availability.
Develop and maintain product documentation (work instructions, BOMs, assembly drawings, electrical drawings, specification sheets, installation and maintenance manuals, etc.).
Develop test fixtures, procedures, and record-keeping for quality checks.
Coordinate handoff to manufacturing, purchasing, and marketing teams.
Qualifications:
Experience with 3D modeling software (Inventor or SolidWorks).
Excellent understanding of manufacturing processes (tolerancing, materials, welding, milling, CNC, lathes, plasma or laser cutting).
Previous experience in product development.
Hands-on experience in troubleshooting electrical and mechanical problems.
Experience performing Process Capability Analysis.
Ability to write technical reports and present to various organizational levels.
Ability to work independently with minimal oversight while maintaining project focus.
Proficiency in Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Project).
Work Conditions:
Work in both office and production environments.
Solitude as needed for creativity.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering.
5 years of experience required.
Experience in Manufacturing, Product Development, or R&D is essential.
